Filipinos in San Francisco

Arcadia Publishing just released “Filipinos in San Francisco,” a book that chronicles the Filipino influence on the city of San Francisco as part of their Images of America Series. This book was written by the Pin@y Educational Partnerships and Manilatown Heritage Foundation, and is mostly a photo journal that traces the history of Filipinos in San Francisco.

This release follows on the heels of other West Coast releases “Filipinos in San Diego” (August 2010), “Filipinos in the East Bay” ( Jun 23 2008), “Filipinos in Stockton” (2008), “Filipinos in Hollywood” (Feb 2008), and “Filipinos in Vallejo” (2005).

I highly recommend these books for young Filipino Americans ages 10 – 18 years old who are just realizing the Filipino influence in America. I’m so happy Filipinos are being included by Arcadia Publishing as a relevant immigrant community worth investing in. Now if we can get Hollywood to agree? So many Filipino stories that aren’t getting any love…can we have another film we can hang our hats on besides The Debut?

Anyway, support the book release and pick up a copy here!

How dare you have a snowstorm when I don't live there anymore by Paul Ryan Wednesday, Mar. 7, 2007 C'mon, Duluth. You had twenty-foot snowdrifts last weekend? Really? What the hell happened? Is God still pissed about that Jesus crucifixion thing? Are you sure the snowbanks aren't just frozen locusts? There comes a time in every person' […]

Celebrity gossip helps our nation by Paul Ryan Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007 There was a time when celebrity gossip wasn't the center of our universe. Granted, none of the cavemen or cavewomen from that era are still alive, but it existed. Or at least I hope it did. It's hard to be sure without any living witnesses. Even before Anna Nicole Smith deco […]

Tax tips for liars, scoundrels, and people who don't like to work by Paul Ryan Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 February is that special time of year when lovers exchange gifts to show how much they care about each other. Since I'm a bit of an expert on Valentine's Day, I'm going to give you a few tips that . . . What? The fourteenth? Who the […]
  • Feb. 14 - My downstairs neighbor is a douche 02/16/2007
My downstairs neighbor is a douche by Paul Ryan Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007 My downstairs neighbor doesn't like me very much. You'd think we'd have a few things in common since we're the same age, but she seems to hate everything I enjoy. For instance, I love pounding nails into the wall late at night. Her? Not so much. I also love playin […]
  • Feb. 7 - I've been given a tour of the gay community 02/07/2007
I've been given a tour of the gay community by Paul Ryan Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 I'm a straight man, but I have a few gay friends. It's always interesting when we hang out, because a straight man's night out is very different from a night of gay clubbing. For instance, the women who hang out with gay men are very attractive, while the […]
